Fall 2016 Business Owner Exit Planning Program |
Business owners typically have 80-90% of their wealth tied up in their businesses, and every owner will eventually exit. It's not a matter of if, it's a question of when and how. Unfortunately, exits are often preceded by death, disability, disaster, divorce and disagreements. Owners who wish to avoid those scenarios, and exit on their own terms and at a time of their choosing, need a comprehensive exit plan for personal, financial and business success.
The odds of unaided success are not favorable, however. 80% of small & medium sized businesses never make it to market, and half of those that do fail to sell as going concerns. Put another way, owners of a paltry 10% of small & medium-sized businesses achieve successful exits. Thinking about keeping it in the family? Family owned businesses have a 12% chance of making it to the second generation.
Face these facts, and learn what it takes to achieve a successful exit from the business that is the culmination of your life’s work. Join Sean Hutchinson, CEO of Strategic Value Advisors, Alistair Stewart, Senior Business Advisor at the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, and Rocky Mountain Bank for a series of three Webinars and a 1/2 -day Capstone Workshop to arm yourself with actionable insights and a game plan to maximize value and “be in The Twelve”
Three one-hour Webinars
* Why Are Some Businesses Worth More Than Others? - Monday, October 31st, 12-1pm
The primary objective of this webinar is to expose business owners to the basics of valuation and how value is perceived through the eyes of an investor or buyer. This is a critical shift in perspective that helps owners take a more objective view of value-building. Step 1 in the Value Growth process is to understand how to actively “move the needle” toward a higher value business.
* Value Drivers and Killers - Monday, November 7th, 12-1pm
Owners who understand value drivers and killers have a massive financial advantage and hold one of the keys to advanced value creation. The objective of this webinar is to build the owner’s ability to spot the main value drivers and value killers in their company – and then take action to reinforce the first and eliminate the second. Participants will also take home one of the most powerful tools for driving value: the “Feed-Starve” analysis.
* Harvesting Wealth From Your Business - Monday, November 14th, 12-1pm
Healthy value-oriented businesses create wealth beyond income. Great businesses are high-value investments that should outpace overall market returns. One big challenge is the super-illiquidity of private business stock – and the fact that the great majority of an owner’s personal net worth is tied up in their business. Diversifying into a more liquid investment position is paramount. The good news is that owners have many options for harvesting wealth. Understanding all of the options, and their pros and cons, allows the owner to work with a multi-disciplinary professional team to design short- and long-term plans for managing risk and achieving greater wealth.
The 1/2-day Capstone Workshop (Monday, November 21st, GranTree Inn, Bozeman Montana)
