Please review the REI Travel Policy. All policies and guidelines outlined in the REI Travel Policy are applicable when arranging travel, traveling and requesting reimbursement for the Anderson Award Event. The REI Events team, as the budgetary approver, has additional requirements outlined below.
- Non-exempt employees are eligible for travel pay when traveling at REI's request or for REI's benefit, such as for conferences, off-site business, or training
- Travel time begins from the time the employee leaves home, until the time of arrival at the destination (for a day trip) or the hotel (for an overnight trip) less commute time. If the employee leaves from a work location all time would be considered travel time
- For the return, travel time is from the time the employee leaves the destination (for a day trip) or the hotel (for an overnight trip) until the time the employee returns home
- Time spent at the airport or other travel terminal required check-in time or for delay time is travel time
- The following guidelines also apply to travel pay
- If you combine business travel with personal travel, discuss this with your manager to determine what travel pay is due
- If the travel occurs on a day that you also worked, you will be paid for your actual hours worked, in addition to any travel pay, including any overtime hours accrued
- If you travel to another work location to conduct work, you will be paid for your travel time to the destination and the work at the destination just as if you were working in your normal location
- Travel time and mileage does not include the time spent on your normal commute to work. If you begin travel from home, the amount of time/ mileage your normal commute would take is deducted from travel/ mileage

While traveling for the Anderson Award event, you will be reimburse for any meals that are not otherwise provided. REI will reimburse you for up to $55 each day for meals for two travel days – the day you travel to the event and the day you travel home. For example if you leave to the airport at 11am, we will reimburse for lunch and for dinner, not for breakfast as you are not traveling during that time.
We will not reimburse employees for additional meals that are purchased when REI has already provided meals, for example we provide breakfast at the hotel every day of the event, therefore we will not reimburse for breakfast on those days. Check with your airline in advance of your departure date for restrictions or fees on checked and carry-on luggage. REI will reimburse you for one checked bag.
REI casual, comfortable clothing for all events. Layers are recommended if you run hot or cold. Jeans and flip flops are entirely acceptable. For Tuesday, June 7th and Thursday, June 9th bring a small daypack to hold personal items, reusable water bottle, camera, and closed-toed shoes (this will be required for select elective sessions).
For Wednesday, June 8th, the dress code will depend on the Northwest Play Day activity you register for. Play Day activities will be open for selecting during registration. Your guide will send a separate introduction and gear list to help in your planning following your registration.
Group meals will be provided during the event, beginning with breakfast on Tuesday, June 7, ending with breakfast on Friday, June 10.
Answer this question in registration to inform us of any dietary restrictions, food allergies or special observances. For most meals we have accommodated dietary concerns in the event plans. If you have additional questions or concerns once onsite, please contact the Registration Team at the registration desk.
Travel companions are welcome to share the hotel room. However, Anderson Award events including breakfasts at the host hotel are limited to award recipients only. The companion will need to book his/her own flight and make plans to entertain themselves during event festivities. The daily event agendas are very full and only award recipients will be allowed during activities. It is usually best for the companion to wait until the recipient's flights have been confirmed to book the same flights.
