2019 Psychiatry Symposium
 
Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the symposium, the participants should be able to:

  1. Treatment Challenges: Examine personal gaps in clinical practice and incorporate at least two changes in practice to improve care for patients with treatment-resistant depression or “Triple Threat” (Dual diagnosis with chronic pain, medical illness, and/or medical cannabis use).
  2. Population-specific: Improve psychiatric assessment and evidence-based management for two of the following populations: Geriatric, Transgender Youth, Women (pregnant, breastfeeding, perimenopausal), and those on disability requesting off-work orders.
  3. Communication: Use at least one new approach to address challenging discussions, e.g. risks of concurrent benzo/opioids, and reasons for discontinuing benzo or stimulant; conflicts that may arise with youth and their families regarding transgender assessment; requests for off-work orders.
  4. Wellness: Apply at least one new strategy to recognize burnout in ourselves and our peers, and manage personal & professional wellness.





Accreditation

Physicians - The Southern California Permanente Medical Group is accredited by the California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Southern California Permanente Medical Group designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.™ Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses and Physician Assistants – Attendees may report up to 7.0 hours toward continuing education requirements for license renewal. ‘CME’ can be written in lieu of the provider number on all licensure renewal applications.

Self-Assessment
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has reviewed the 2019 SCPMG Psychiatry Symposium, and has approved this program as part of a comprehensive Self-Assessment Program, which is mandated by the ABMS as a necessary component of maintenance of certification. This activity awards up to 5.25 Self-Assessment CME credits. The approval period is for November 22, 2019.
