The NASA STEM Educator Professional Development Collaborative at Texas State University and the NASA Stennis Space Center is providing a free 5.0-hour on-center NASA STEM EPD workshop.

NASA Stennis Space Center: Weather Academy

Audience: In-service, Pre-service, Home School and Informal Educators of Grades 4-8
Date: Thursday, July 21, 2016
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. CDT (30 minute lunch – please bring your lunch)
Location: Stennis Space Center; South Gate Classroom (Bldg. 3101, Room 109). Directions from I-10: Exit 2 (Mississippi), travel north on Hwy. 607. Once you reach the Stennis Space Center, Bldg. 3101 is on your right, BEFORE you reach the guard gate (South Gate). Park in the parking lot for Bldg. 3101 and  enter the main entrance. The classroom, Room 109, will be just past the reception area. No badge is required for entering the classroom. Map

Description: Explore NASA's role in our understanding and forecasting of weather, climate, climate changes and their effects on Earth’s systems. NASA data, STEM curriculum and resources will guide us through a “storm” of classroom activities and learning strategies in this unique "climate" of learning. Join us, rain or shine.
Also presenting in this workshop, will be members of the US Air Force Reserve “Hurricane Hunters", as seen on TV, who will share their experiences and expertise in the study of hurricanes and other major storms (their attendance is subject to change, due to unpredicted storm activity).


Online registration is required to participate.
Registration will be limited to 30 educators.
Registration will close July 18, 2016 (or, when 30 educators are registered).

CEU's will be provided for 5.0 hours of attendance.

Steve Culivan is the NASA STEM Education Professional Development Collaborative Specialist at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Mr. Culivan develops and provides NASA STEM online and face-to-face professional development programs for in-service, pre-service and informal educators. Mr. Culivan was the Principal Investigator for two International Space Station (ISS) in-flight education demonstrations. He additionally developed and co-developed several NASA curriculum products. Prior to his current twenty-seven year career with NASA Education, Mr. Culivan taught middle school Earth and Space Science, life science, English, art and coached several sports in his hometown of Baton Rouge, LA. He holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate in science and English. Mr. Culivan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters of Science degree in Education from Oklahoma State University.
