Building Competencies for Youth Service Professionals Training

Overview

What is it?

Three days of in-person training to prepare TANF/Workforce staff to successfully engage youth ages 16-24 in Ohio’s new Comprehensive Case Management Employment Program (CCMEP).

Description A nationally recognized curriculum will be used to provide initial training to Ohio’s TANF and Workforce staff preparing for their role as case managers with youth populations eligible to receive services through the CCMEP. To be successful, CCMEP case managers need skills in engaging youth, assessing strengths and interests, and developing an individualized career plan. This three-day highly interactive training, developed by the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth, is the first step in developing those important skills. The Youth Service Professionals’ Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Training modules focus on competencies in positive youth development, the helping relationship, assessment, and career preparation.

LocationsTraining will be offered in multiple locations statewide, with trainers working in teams of two to deliver each day of training. Participants will have the flexibility of attending training according to what works best for their schedule.

Trainer Expertise — The National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth will use a Trainer of Trainers model to prepare 30 Ohio trainers in the fields of Workforce Development, Education, Child Welfare, Behavioral Health Prevention and Treatment. The training components will be co-trained to offer multiple perspectives and explore cross-system collaboration.
