 | Abbas Abdulhassan Senior Quality Officer Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC)
Abbas is
currently the Senior Quality Officer in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC)
since June 2011. He is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and
a Certified Professional of Healthcare Quality CPHQ. He has a Diploma in
Project Management, Diploma in Operations Management, OHSAS 18001
certification, Nursing Management Course, accredited by Harvard University and
is Lean Methodology Certified.
Abbas worked at SKMC since the first two
months of Operation in 2000. He started working as a translator and moved to
administration work as a Senior Unit coordinator on 2005. Abbas always had a passion for performance
improvement and continuous change for best practice. He believes that every day
and everywhere there is a chance for improvement. World Class Healthcare is the
standard that he wishes he can reach in SKMC one day.
Abbas is very instrumental in SKMC’s
accreditation processes (JCIA, HAAD). He is also a part of SKMC’s SKEA and DQA
preparation teams. Continuous Accreditation is part of his every day
activities; for a simple reason: he believes that those standards must be
implemented to ensure safe and quality patient care.
Abbas is the Data and IT person in Office of
Nursing Staff Affairs. He developed the Nursing Monthly Report as a productivity
and quality measurement tool for all nursing departments and clinics (54
departments). He developed Nursing Dashboard that populates data automatically
from the Nursing Monthly Report. He is responsible for developing and
maintaining the nursing site on the internal website of SKMC. He is part of
SEHA’s NIHQM (National Inpatient Hospital Quality Measures) implementation and
follow-up team as well.
He has done and participated in many research
studies conducted in SKMC. He was part of Hourly Rounding study which set the
ground to a new perception of patient care by putting patient at the center of
all activities done by SKMC nurses. He is also conducting a Data Usage research
currently which is designed to avoid a well-known shortfall that majority of
organizations fall for; that is DRIP (Data Rich Information Poor).
Abbas was a member of the team who prepared
and delivered two Nursing Quality conferences in which he presented four
lectures, five Wound Care conferences. He presented in the Middle East Quality
and Safety Congress over two years (2012 and 2013). He also presented at the
Gharbia Nursing Conference in 2014.
Abbas is a lead Auditor for EHSMS in SKMC. He
conducted 11 internal EHS audits in SKMC for 2013 and 2014. He is also part of SKMC’s
continuous survey readiness team which does periodic audits in the
organization. He is part of SKMC NDNQI
(National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators) team that has established
and maintained this initiative as the first hospital in the UAE.

Abbas has organized and facilitated
approximately around 200 educational programs through Health Authority of Abu
Dhabi (HAAD) Continuous Medical Education (CME) approval in the past two years.
He prepared and delivered CPHQ preparation Course, CPHRM preparation course,
Change Management Course, and many other educational workshops.
He co-authored Risk Management Pocket Guide
and JCIA Tracer Tool which are developed and published at SKMC. He also
published a paper “Stress management and human beliefs & their effect on
behavioral disorders”. He is in the process of writing about
Structure-Process-Outcome in hospitals and the effect of climate of care.
Abbas writes Arabic poetry and loves music. He is a former
football player back home in Iraq. His dream is to have the power to make whom
he loves happy.

Deborah
Pierce joined
Amana as Senior Physiotherapist for our Al Ain facility. Deborah qualified in
2004 and obtained a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy from Auckland
University of Technology, New Zealand. She has spent over 5 years in a tertiary
acute care settings, specializing in neurorehabilitation and advancing in
managerial responsibility in New Zealand. Deborah spent 3 years as the team
leader for critical care, acute neurology/neurosurgery, stroke and medical
units within a JCIA accredited hospital in UAE before joining Amana as Team
Leader for Rehabilitation in Feb 2013.Deborah acts as a HAAD examiner for the
physiotherapy profession and is CPHQ certified in her commitment to quality
service provision and the progression of rehabilitation in UAE.Deborah is
currently studying for her Masters in Business Administration (Health

Ms.
Diana Grobler currently holds the post of Director of Nursing at Al Noor
Khalifa Hospital. She has worked in the private sector in South Africa from
1974 until 1996. She has worked in the Middle East since 1997 where she held
different positions of Director of Nursing in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the
U.A.E. She held the potion of Vice President Operations and Quality at
Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center Abu Dhabi
She
holds qualifications in General Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health Nursing
and Nursing Administration through the University of Pretoria and has completed
a Masters in Healthcare Management through the university, Royal College of
Surgeons, Ireland.
She
has vast experience in commissioning Healthcare facilities and has been part of
and led commissioning teams for new hospitals.
She
is experienced Quality and Accreditation procedures in Health care.
She
is experienced in education of all categories of nursing staff and has assisted
in the formation of curriculum for nurses in new ventures in Syria. She is
aware of the current and future trends in healthcare and has established
partnership programs with regards to training of nursing.
She
works in developing new educational programs to meet the future needs and
trends in nursing and staff retention. She serves on the U.A.E. Federal Nursing
Policy and Practice Committee in the Ministry of Health.

Dr Taghreed is an Assistant Professor in the
Faculty of Business at the University of Wollongong in Dubai. Prior to joining
UOWD she taught undergraduate degree courses at the University of Sharjah and
theUniversity of Algiers.
Dr Taghreed obtained her PhD from CranfieldUniversity
ofthe United Kingdom, specialising inCustomer Involvement in the service design. She also holds an MSc from the University of Algiersin Business
Management and a BA from the United Arab Emirates
University.
Dr Taghreed has worked at managerial levels in business
consultancy, training and higher education sectors. In her previous role she
taught management disciplines including principles of management, creative
thinking and problem solving,and methodology. She has extensive international
experience, having worked in the UAE, UK and the Algeria.

Linda is currently
the Assistant Director of Nursing for ED/ UCC/OR/ CSSD/ Bed Management at
Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. She has been in this role since 2013 and was the
Deputy Chief Nursing Officer prior to this since 2004.
She has worked in
the Middle East for 17years, commencing as a Nurse Manager in a Pediatric
Immunization Clinic, becoming Assistant Director of Nursing in Central and Al
Jaziera Hospital, and when those hospitals were merged with Sheikh Khalifa
Hospital, took on her current role.
Her background in
South Africa included Emergency Medicine, Surgical Units and Operating Room
Nursing, Community Health and Intensive Care nursing.

Linda has been
instrumental in bringing the Magnet concept to SKMC and has initiated systems
and processes which have established the secure base for the development and
demonstration of nursing leadership and excellence, and shared governance in
particular.
Her drive for strong
nursing leadership has resulted in attracting and developing a team of diverse
managers, which she challenges to demonstrate ongoing professional growth and
effectiveness. Her commitment to the relationship of Emotional Intelligence and
leadership is evident in all of her professional activities.
Linda retains current
certification with ACHE (American Center of Healthcare Executives), and is a
member of the Emirates Nursing Association and has passed CPHQ and completed
her Diploma in Wound Care Management through Toronto University. Currently in process of doing her PhD in

Dr. Nigel Umar Beejay is a Physician Executive (Gastroenterologist) with 20 years extensive clinical experience and in depth knowledge of global health care systems (US/UK/Canada/KSA/Middle East).
His management skills include leadership, exceptional communication skills and team building. He is highly skilled and experienced in Gastroenterology, Medical Informatics, Quality and Patient Safety and is Chairman of the Health Information Management Division at SKMC, Abu Dhabi (managed by Cleveland Clinic). He attended medical school at University of Cambridge and universities internationally in London and Boston and Toronto. Before coming to SKMC Dr Beejay practiced in London for the NHS for 6 years as Lead Consultant for Gastroenterology/Endoscopy. Dr Beejay has a degree in hypnosis from University College London and regularly teaches advanced endoscopic techniques including capsule endoscopy and colonoscopy internationally. Training Program at St George's Hospital, London, Dr. Beejay regularly teaches advanced endoscopic techniques internationally.

Zaatari professional experience combine to make her a rather unique individual,
drawing from a strong medical/scientific, quality & Business background,
combined with recent achievements in Regulatory Affairs management, business
development and compliance within international medical solutions and
pharmaceuticals. As an Assistant Director at JCI, she assists the Managing
Director in developing and managing key driving areas such as planning,

Zaytoen is the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) in Medical
units in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) since June 2006. She has received
Employee Excellence Award November 2007 and Care Giver Award, July 2013. She
was promoted from Charge Nurse to Clinical Resource Nurse.
Zaytoen joined SKMC from Christian Barnard Memorial Hospital
in Cape Town, South Africa where she worked as Clinical Facilitator. In this
organization, Zaytoen was promoted to Clinical Facilitator from Shift Leader
position. She also worked as a manager of OPD, staff compliment of 55 nursing
staff and 12 clerks, staffing and managing approximately 45 clinics per day and
patient monthly turnover of 18000 in Al Hada Military Hospital, Taif, Saudi
Arabia.
Zaytoen is a holder of Diploma in General Nursing &
Midwifery from SarlehDollie & Nico Malan Nursing College in 1987.
