Speaker Spotlight: Craig Czarny
While the principles of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) have been adopted globally, its execution has often been hampered by a poor understanding of human movement patterns and behaviour.
A new regime of TOD practice has been developed, which seeks to marry the principles of TOD with a renewed interested in Pedestrian Oriented Design (POD), with a focus on delivery of successful functional ‘people places’.
A TOD-POD approach- as found in recent case studies undertaken for City Governments (and the World Bank) in Indonesia, Vietnam and China, allows for more harmonious integration of sometime bold redevelopment programmes.
This approach also assures a critical human dimension- allowing major redevelopment initiatives to contribute tangible social, economic and environmental benefits to surrounding neighbourhoods.
