2010 Quarry Industry Study Tour Technical Program

The technical program for the 2010 Quarry Industry Study Tour will include:

• A site visit and presentation at Maxam Civil Explosives head office in Madrid
• Two (2) days participation in SMOPYC 2011 in Zaragoza
• A quarry or mine site visit near Barcelona, and
• A guided tour of Maxam’s explosives factory in Galdakao

MAXAM

MAXAM will host us at their head office in Madrid and at their explosives factory in Galdakao in northern Spain.

QUARRY OR MINESITE VISIT
MAXAM are also organising a guided tour of a mine or quarry near Barcelona for the group.   This will be an opportunity for us to see first-hand how quarrying and mining is conducted in Spain. A chance to see what is the same and what is different from how we do things in Australia.

SMOPYC
The 15th edition of SMOPYC, International Show of Public Works, Construction and Mining Machinery, to be held at the Zaragoza Trade Fair Centre from 5 to 9 April 2011, and will feature number of important changes and innovations. Substantial improvements to facilities and services are just some of the initiatives being taken to ensure that SMOPYC 2011 is even more successful than previous editions.

SMOPYC is one of the most important events of the year for both the Spanish and international building and construction sectors. In the 30 years it has been conducted it has become one of the top three fairs in the world for these sectors.

The figures for SMOPYC 2008 speak for themselves and underline the significance of this Show. Despite being held at the beginning of the recession, it had the best results in the history of the event, with over 100,000 visitors and 2,014 exhibitors from all over the world. It included a total exhibition space of 400,000 m2, including the essential outdoor areas which offered the scope required to facilitate live demonstrations of the capacity and power of heavy machinery. More than a quarter (27.15%) of exhibitor companies were from the earth moving and road construction sector.

QMCS & PDP POINTS
While this is not an IQA tour, the technical activities in the program will entitle participants to claim approximately 30 hours of On-going Professional Development for obtaining or retaining their Quarry Management Certification status as managers or supervisors and approximately 30 points for their Professional Development Program.
