Bristol's Big Leap!

Frequently Asked Questions

Some questions you may be asking yourself are listed below...

Q. The weather forecast looks like rain, will the event still go ahead?

A. Yes, the event will go ahead even if it’s raining. The only conditions which will delay or cancel the event will be snow, lightning or gales and if it does become necessary to cancel the event we will endeavour to contact you in advance.

Q. I have never been on a zipslide before, will there be instruction?

A. It doesn't matter that you haven’t been on a zipslide before. There will be a full briefing beforehand from experienced instructors and you will have the opportunity to ask them any questions you wish.

Q. Has a risk assessment been carried out and do you have insurance?

A. Yes, a risk assessment has been carried out and The Outer Edge are fully insured up to a value of £10 million. Copies of these documents can be provided if required.

Q. Is there a maximum weight limit for the zipslide?

A. We can accommodate people up to the weight of 18 stone due to the size of equipment and load exerted although some may need to be fitted with extra equipment for their comfort. If you are heavier than 18 stone you can contact The Outer Edge to discuss your participation on jp@the-outeredge.co.uk or 07889 888915. Similarly, any participants under 6 stone should get in touch.

Q. Is there an age limit for the zipslide?

A. All participants must be aged 18 or over unless they are accompanied by a parent/legal guardian (a minimum age of 14 then applies). The Outer Edge do not recommend an upper age limit for participation however they do recommend that older individuals consult their doctor if they have any concerns about their health or ability.

Q. I am very keen to take part but I’m not sure I will be able to raise the minimum amount.

A. Bearing in mind the exclusive nature of this event and the very small number of people that we can accommodate on the day, we do ask that you please raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship. Of this total, £40 will be taken as your registration fee leaving £160 still to raise. We hope you understand that the event is designed to raise as much money as we can for Cancer Research UK and therefore each place is extremely valuable. We find that it is often much easier to raise this amount than it seems at first sight, and should you require a little help you will find a number of hints and tips here on the website which should help you reach this figure without any problems. Of course, £200 isn't the limit and if you are able to raise more we woud be hugely grateful - every penny counts and not many causes are more worthwhile!

Q. How long will it be from registering to going down the slide?

A. It should be no longer than 1 hour. After you have registered you will be given a full briefing by The Outer Edge instructors who will then kit you up and show you to the zip slide take off point. Please ensure that you arrive promptly as although every effort will be made to accommodate you, we cannot guarantee you a place at a later time. After your slide a shuttle bus will bring you back to the start. You should expect to arrive back at the Observatory approx. 45 mins after you take off.

Q. Can we take part in fancy dress?

A. Yes, fancy dress is fine however the costume should not be baggy as we don’t want it to catch in any of the mechanisms. The zipslide instructors will have the last say on whether the costume is acceptable or not but we do encourage fancy dress as it adds to the colour and enjoyment of the event. If you have any doubts, please contact the Outer Edge on contact details to discuss your outfit on jp@the-outeredge.co.uk or 07889 888915

Q. Can I change the time of my zipslide?

A. Unfortunately, because so many people wish to take part and we only have a limited period of time in which to carry out the zipslide, it is necessary for us to keep to the original schedule and so no changes can be made. Please ensure that you arrive promptly as although every effort will be made to accommodate you, we cannot guarantee you a place at a later time.
