IHE World Summit 2016
The IHE World Summit will be held in parallel to eHealth Week on 7 and 8 June 2016 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. IHE brings together healthcare IT system users and developers to address interoperability issues that impact clinical care. The work involves identifying real-world scenarios/use cases, writing and reviewing specifications, implementing in products, monitoring vendor testing, etc. We invite you to become involved in one or more of these activities.
About IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise)
IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.

Panel 1: Connecting the world - from projects to operations!The need to interoperate across the eHealth infrastructures of mature and emerging eHealth projects is receiving more attention. In some countries, this challenge has to be addressed between the regions/states or communities within a country (e.g. eHealth Exchange in the USA, Italian national health records, eHealth Suisse). This need is also recognized in groups of countries that have structured collaboration in place (e.g. Connecting Europe Facility). Some are now considering this at the international level (e.g. EU/US eHealth MoU and Trillium Bridge Project). This session will consider the challenges and lessons learned in this growing area of interoperability, including several topics such as: the uptake strategies, IHE profiles that have proven effective, the granularity of information shared (structured documents versus data elements), the types of information shared (e.g. patient summaries, prescriptions, images), the information life cycle (source persisted, on-demand), the information exchange security and privacy policies.

Panel 2: National eHealth interoperability innovations and strategiesMany countries are progressing in the launch of their national eHealth strategy and are considering IHE profiles and testing resources to accelerate their deployment. These range from national electronic health record programs to populating public health data registries to targeted programs to address specific needs such as disease monitoring or e-prescribing. Projects are being deployed in regions and nations of all sizes and in widely varying resource environments. This panel will highlight the goals of these projects in implementing innovative eHealth strategies, and discuss their challenges and advancement. |

Panel 3: Driving clinical and business intelligence using data mining on a document sharing infrastructureMore and more documents are being stored in Health Information Exchanges (HIEs). While these HIEs do contain highly valuable data, retrieving the data for analysis poses new challenges in terms of access, privacy and security. This panel will target the different aspects that are specific to performing data mining on document sharing infrastructure.

Panel 4: Annual Hot-Topic: Patient Summary - What is it and how is it used?The term “Patient Summary” is widely known but what is it? Is it a data-set stored and managed in a document, is it generated information collected on-demand from the patient’s health record or is it a blended approach including both? There is no globally harmonized definition in place and the concept is understood differently wherever you go. The content of a patient summary is also a source of country variations. This panel will target these different aspects of a Patient Summary by providing information about different views, approaches and for what use-cases it shall serve.

Panel 5: IHE Conformity Assessment Testing in a Global ContextConformity Assessment describes a continuum of testing, validation and attestation processes used throughout the world to improve vendor compliance and consumer assurance of health IT systems interoperability. IHE International has launched a conformity assessment framework that has international relevance, while supporting the specific needs of each country or region that chooses to implement such a program. This panel will report on the success of global testing and certification programs including progress of IHE International’s Conformity Assessment Scheme in Europe and other regions of the world.

Panel 6: The Road to Interoperability in Global mHealth InnovationsFocus on global reach and local presence for mobile and connected health. Regions around the world work to overcome barriers to adoption of personal connected mHealth technologies and services that could improve disease management, facilitate aging independently, drive innovation and empower individuals to better manage their health and wellness. The discussion will cover the need for infrastructure and systems required to implement connected health in rural, suburban and urban areas across regions of the world including those in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Discussion will explore the identification of critical areas where IHE should focus its attention for standardized interfaces, areas of interoperability critical for deploying sustainable systems and mobile applications ecosystems.
