CORDEL Codes & Standards Workshop

International Convergence of Mechanical Code Requirements

12-14th January 2015

Background:

The WNA CORDEL Codes & Standard Task Force (CSTF) has as its mandate to:
  • Actively promote collaboration between SDOs, national regulators and the nuclear industry on convergence of mechanical design codes
  • Establish equivalents between nuclear mechanical design codes
  • Promote the international convergence of national nuclear codes,

In recent years, the Chinese government has promoted the development of a national nuclear design code in order to support the development of indigenous NPP designs. In this context, the CSTF has identified the need for increase collaboration between the Chinese nuclear code developers, the existing Standard Development Organizations and the nuclear industry, in order to limit divergence in mechanical design code requirements.

Objectives:

The objective of this Workshop is to provide a forum for the industry and the Standard Development Organizations to discuss opportunities to establish convergence between mechanical design codes, with a focus on emerging nuclear markets and new design code development.

The workshop will promote the sharing of information regarding the existing requirements in the major mechanical design codes. Furthermore, convergence of requirements in specific technical areas will be discussed. It will be divided into five distinct sessions shown below.

·         Session 1: Introductory session

·         Session 2: Presentation of current international code requirements

·         Session 3: Presentation of the Chinese mechanical code development

·         Session 4: How to achieve convergence

·         Session 5: Closing session

Target Audience:

  • Representatives from Code Development Organizations
  • Code Users
  • Any Stakeholder in nuclear business taking an interest in issues of mechanical design codes and their impact on nuclear projects development
