JOHN WEPLER, Chairman & CEO

 
John M. Wepler joined Marsh, Berry & Company, Inc. (MarshBerry) in 1991 and is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and the largest shareholder.

John is a frequent keynote speaker on organic growth management, valuation enhancement solutions, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), strategic business planning, ownership perpetuation and financial management at national conferences, agent association meetings, insurance carrier elite meetings and executive leadership forums including:

John has extensive knowledge in the area of merger & acquisition advisory, having personally advised on over 150 M&A transactions since joining the firm. He has written articles for leading insurance publications, including SNL Securities, Best’s Review, American Agent and Broker, National Underwriter and M&A Scoreboard Magazine.

John is an Advisor to the Board for the Worldwide Broker Network (WBN), is an Advisor to the Board of the Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers (DVIC) and serves on the Board of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF).

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Kent State University. He currently maintains the Series 62, 79, 99, 24 and 63 FINRA Registrations through MarshBerry Capital, Inc., the affiliated FINRA-registered Broker/Dealer of Marsh, Berry & Co., Inc.

ROB LIEBLEIN, Executive Vice President

Rob Lieblein joined Marsh, Berry & Co., Inc. (MarshBerry) in 2012 as an Executive Vice President on the Merger & Acquisition team (M&A).

Rob has over 25 years of experience and during his career, has been involved in more than 150 M&A transactions. He has written numerous articles for industry publications and is a frequent speaker for industry trade groups and associations including:
  • SNL Financial investment banking training workshops
  • Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB) conferences
  • Benefit Advisors Network 
He is responsible for a variety of activities relating to deal execution on both buy- side and sell-side M&A transactions, including internal and external perpetuation planning. He has extensive knowledge as it relates to acquisition analysis, transaction valuation and structuring, acquisition strategy, due diligence, negotiations and post-acquisition consulting.

In addition to his role in M&A, Rob has extensive experience related to employee benefits, including health care reform, and is a strategic consultant for the employee benefit industry and advises employee benefit firms throughout the country on strategic planning and transformation strategies.

Prior to joining MarshBerry, Rob was a managing partner at Hales & Company. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Mathematics and Computer Science from Shippensburg University. Rob currently maintains the Series 62, 79 and 63 FINRA Registrations through MarshBerry Capital, Inc., the affiliated FINRA-registered Broker/Dealer of Marsh, Berry & Co., Inc.

PHIL TREM, Senior Vice President

 
Phil joined Marsh, Berry & Co., Inc. (MarshBerry) in 2010 as a Vice President on the Merger & Acquisition (M&A) team bringing with him a significant amount of experience in operations and M&A advisory - specifically for the business and technology consulting services arena. In January of 2015, Phil was promoted to Senior Vice President.

Phil is a contributing author to Leader’s Edge, a publication for commercial property-casualty brokers and group benefits consultants. He is also the lead author on their annual Merger & Acquisition supplement published in April. In addition, he is a notable authority for publications such as Insurance Journal, American Agent & Broker, Business Insurance, SNL Financial, ProgramBusiness.com and others.

Phil is a keynote speaker at agent association meetings, insurance carrier elite meetings and executive leadership forums including:
  • Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB) conferences 
  • Selective Executive Symposiums 
  • SNL Financial Insurance Brokerage Summit and training workshops 
  • State Insurance Associations (e.g. Big I and PIA) 
He is a key contributor to MarshBerry’s M&A services division and is responsible for deal execution on both buy-side and sell-side transactions. Phil has extensive knowledge in the areas of acquisition analysis, due diligence, deal negotiation and integration planning.

Aside from his responsibilities within the firm’s M&A division, Phil is a regular contributor to MarshBerry’s consulting practice. His consulting activities involve internal perpetuation planning, strategic business planning, financial and organizational development, compensation strategies and as a facilitator within MarshBerry’s Peer Exchange Networks.

Prior to joining MarshBerry, Phil worked for a technology consultancy as their Director of Corporate Operations. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Management Information Systems from Ohio University and a Law Degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and currently maintains the Series 62, 79 and 63 FINRA Registrations through MarshBerry Capital, Inc., the affiliated FINRA-registered Broker/Dealer of Marsh, Berry & Co., Inc.
