Sona Maniyan is a Software Engineer in the Backup and Recovery Division of Veritas Technologies LLC. She works on telemetry analytics for NetBackup, the world's leading backup and recovery solution for enterprise data centers and hybrid clouds. She was a stay-at-home mom for a few years before heading back to school for a Masters in Software Engineering. She did two internships during her masters program. She believes the most valuable takeaways from her internships aside from the the technical skills she learned was the importance of networking, gaining visibility and building relationships. Sona graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 2015 and her internship with Veritas became a full time job in August 2015. She is very involved with local meet-up groups focusing on data science and is a co-founder of Social Data Science, a Minneapolis based meetup group that organises data science hackathons in collaboration with local nonprofit organizations
