Taking A Fresh Look At Aeromedical Certification

This site is for commercial pilots and representatives of airlines, unions, AMEs and the FAA to register for informational sessions this fall. These sessions will clarify what to expect if you choose to participate in a series of workshops planned for 2024 about collaborating to take a fresh look at aeromedical certification and pilot health as a part of aviation safety risk management. The not-for-profit MITRE Corporation is conducting this research and serving as an independent convener of a potential collaboration among airlines, unions, pilots, AMEs, and the FAA.

Based on stakeholder interviews and input in 2023, we are excited about the possibility that this type of collaboration could lead to:

  • Increased retention and availability of pilots through co-creating more data-driven standards
  • Sustained aviation safety while boosting operational efficiency and flexibility
  • A reliable process with clear standards that supports both potential and current pilots’ proactive health and career interests as well as aviation safety

The premise is that, by sharing data with appropriate safeguards, we can co-create an evidence-based approach to aviation risk management that better addresses your needs and concerns while sustaining or improving safety. We’re looking for perspectives from pilots, unions, airlines, and AMEs who are:

  • Visionary / innovative thinkers
  • Well-connected in their organization so they can bring additional perspectives on data, safeguards, or other considerations forward as needed
  • Aware of the opportunities and challenges for improving the future of aeromedical certification
  • Willing and available to discuss how a data-driven approach might shape a future system

Learn how to get involved, what to expect, and get your questions answered. Register for the virtual information session that works best for you (they will all feature the same presentation and time for questions):

  • November 30 at 15:00 EST
  • December 8 at 11:00 EST
  • December 13 at 12:00 EST
