Fuller Torrey, and our keynote speaker, author Jonathan Rosen. VIP reception guests will also receive a signed copy of Rosen’s critically acclaimed book The Best Minds: A Story of Friendship, Madness, and the Tragedy of Good Intentions.
Our Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Rosen
We are thrilled to have Jonathan Rosen as our keynote speaker for this unforgettable evening. Rosen is an acclaimed editor and author of both novels and nonfiction. Rosen’s most recent publication, The Best Minds: A Story of Friendship, Madness, and the Tragedy of Good Intentions, is a memoir about his best friend Michael Laudor, a Yale Law School graduate with schizophrenia who killed his fiancée in 1998 during a psychotic episode.
The book appears in Amazon editors’ Best Books of 2023 and has received widespread critical acclaim, with The New York Times calling it “brave and nuanced...an act of tremendous compassion and a literary triumph.” Rosen’s essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and numerous anthologies. He lives with his family in New York City.
A Quarter Century of Innovation
In the 25 years since Dr. E. Fuller Torrey founded Treatment Advocacy Center in 1998, TAC has been the only national nonprofit dedicated solely to supporting the more than 8.8 million adults with severe mental illness in the United States and their loved ones.
A pioneer in the field, Dr. Torrey has held a keen interest in mental health since his time as an undergraduate at Princeton. During his sophomore year, his sister, Rhoda, was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and Dr. Torrey saw firsthand the inadequacies in the medical community’s understanding of the causes and treatments for severe mental illness. His personal experience compelled him to devote his career to deepening our understanding of SMI and driving profound changes in laws, policies, and practices for the delivery of high-quality mental healthcare.
From TAC’s inception, Dr. Torrey decided that the organization would not accept financial support from the pharmaceutical industry. Instead, we rely upon the contributions of individuals and foundations who believe in our mission.
