Update on the IA Profession and the Talent Pipeline
In this meeting we’ll catch up with our District Representative, Eulonda Whitmore, before getting an update on the state of the profession from the IIA Global Senior Vice Chair, Stacey Schabel and get an update on the talent pipeline from Dave Flynn Partner and Co-Founder of Orion Solutions. SPEAKERS:
Eulonda Whitmore is the Associate Vice President and Chief Audit Executive at Audit Services at Wayne State University (WSU). She has 28 years of audit experience. Prior to joining WSU, she worked in public accounting. Eulonda is the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) District Representative for the Central 1 District; a Board Member of the Association of College and University Auditors; a past Board Member and President of The IIA Detroit Chapter; a Michigan First Credit Union Supervisory Committee member; and a State of Michigan Board of Accountancy member. Eulonda is a Part-time Faculty member at the WSU Mike Ilitch School of Business. She is also an IIA Training Facilitator. Eulonda presents audit, ethics, and self-care topics to various professional organizations. She earned her B.A. in Accounting from Michigan State University and MBA from WSU. Eulonda is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Construction Auditor and has her Certified Risk Management Assurance designation. She enjoys self-reflection, self-care, giving back to the profession, and warm chocolate chip cookies.
Stacey Schabel is the Senior Vice Chair for The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. (IIA) Global Board of Directors. Stacey is a strategic, forward-thinking financial executive with 20+ years of experience building, executing, and influencing internal audit and risk management activities in US public and global financial services companies. She is an experienced Chief Audit Executive (CAE, 12+ years), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), the 2025-26 Senior Vice Chair of The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. (IIA) Global Board, and the incoming 2026-27 IIA Global Board Chairperson. Stacey has a proven history of aligning activities to organizational strategy, driving innovation, and positive team and Board leadership. She is also passionate about furthering the internal audit profession and supporting the growth and development of future leaders, regularly serving as a mentor and sharing her perspective in industry speaking engagements and periodicals. She has been recognized by Diligent as a “Modern Governance 100 2024 Honoree”; by the Michigan Association of CPAs (MICPA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as a “Woman to Watch – Experienced Leader”; by Digital Insurance as a “Woman in Insurance Leadership”; and by Crain’s Detroit Business as a “Notable Woman in Finance.”
Dave Flynn is a Partner and Co-Founder of Orion Solutions Group.With over 20 years of experience across automotive, banking, insurance, retail, and government sectors, Dave brings a blend of strategic insight and hands-on leadership to the internal audit talent conversation. As head of Orion Solutions’ consulting and staffing practices, he guides cross-functional initiatives spanning compliance, governance, and risk—helping organizations build agile, high-performing teams. His credentials include a BA in Accounting and an MBA from Michigan State University, along with CPA and CISA designations. Dave is a long-time member of the Detroit IIA Chapter who served many years on the Board.

Do not forget to submit nominees for The IIA Rock Star of the Month. A winner will be announced during our monthly chapter meetings.
The IIA Rock Star award recognizes a member who is early within their Auditing career or new to an internal audit role and who demonstrates any the following:
Is an Innovative, Inspiring and Awesome Auditor;
Chapter Champion of their company;
Rallies the people to attend IIA meetings and events;
Understands the IIA Standards and able to apply appropriately;
Utilizes and references IIA standards in their daily work environment;
Your nomination, including a detailed explanation as to why you believe your nominee is the IIA Rock Star of the Month, should be submitted by accessing the nomination form on the Detroit Chapter website at https://www.detroitiia.org/rockstar/.
