Longtime internal auditor and chapter volunteer, Alan Rex will share his insights on "Classic Principles and Modern Practices in Internal Audit".
Alan Rex was born and raised in Brigham City, Utah and was the 5th of 9 children born to his parents. After graduating from Box Elder High School, Alan attended Brigham Young University studying accounting. Following a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Texas, Alan completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Accounting with honors at BYU's Marriott School of Management.
Alan completed an internal audit internship at Sinclair Oil (SLC, UT) and after graduation started his career with Price Waterhouse (PW) in Dallas, Texas, as an auditor, and then as a Cost Accountant for Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, as an Internal Auditor for Deseret Management Company (DMC), as Director of Accounting for Millennial Star network, Inc. (DMC subsidiary), as Vice President Finance for GeoLux Communications, Inc., and from 2004 till 2025 as the chief audit executive (head of Internal Audit) at Merit Medical Systems, Inc. Alan currently is a Dean’s Executive in Residence faculty member teaching accounting at Utah Valley University and teaches management communications at Brigham Young University. Alan is providing professional trainings and consulting services and recently represented the Institute of Internal Auditors at the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) conference presenting “IIA Vision 2035 Insights into the Future of the Auditing Profession.”
Alan taught as an adjunct faculty member at Salt Lake Community College when at Dreyer's. Alan has served on various boards of non-profit organizations and professional associations including the Institute of Internal Auditors Salt Lake City Chapter, Utah Valley University School of Accountancy Advisory Board, Orem City Recreation Advisory Commission, Crossroads of the West Council of Scouting America, Utah National Parks Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Society for the Preservation of America's Founding Values (aka Colonial Heritage Festival).

The training room is located on the first floor at the northeast end of the World Trade Center building above the City Creek food court. If you are driving, City Creek Parking gives the first 2 hours of parking free. The closest two parking entrances are City Creek / Joseph Smith Memorial Building and City Creek East Garage State Street Entrance.
