We will co-host our Chapter Event with Universities of Wisconsin Office of Internal Audit on May 15, 2025! Elizabeth McDowell, a 2023 Internal Audit Beacon, will present Audit Smarter, No Harder: Data Analytics and Power Query with bonus ethics session, where you can earn 6 CPE, including 2 CPE Audit, 2 CPE Information Technology, 2 CPE Ethics. The event includes lunch, which offers a great opportunity for networking with your colleagues from the Madison area. Join us after from 3 to 4:30 for a social hour to celebrate Internal Audit Awareness Month!

If you are unable to join us for the entire event, there is an option to only attend the Ethics presentation. 

The deadline to register for the full 6 CPE plus lunch event is May 1, 2025. The deadline to register for the ethics-only session is May 8, 2025.

The schedule for May 15th is as follows: 

  • 8:00 - 10:00 am – Data Analytics Through the Audit (2 CPE Audit) – Learning objectives include: 

  • Understand what analytics can be performed in audit planning 

  • Use planning analytics to drive testing strategy in fieldwork 

  • Identify "quick win" data analytics that can improve all parts of the audit process 
     

  • 10:15 am - 12:15 pm – Power Query aka “Get and Transform” (2 CPE Information Technology) – Learning objectives include: 

  • Improve your efficiency with an understanding of PowerQuery 

  • Learn the basics of Power Query and start saving time on analytics! 

  • 12:15 - 1:00 pm – Lunch  
     

  • 1:00 - 3:00 pm – Ethics & Disability Inclusion (2 CPE Ethics) – Learning objectives include: 

  • Challenges and opportunities that arise when navigating a hearing world 

  • The four ethics principles of integrity, objectivity, confidentiality 

  • How to be an advocate - strategies for fostering inclusivity and empathy

Elizabeth McDowell, CPA, CIA has nearly 20 years of audit experience and is the founder of Audit Forward, an innovative internal audit consulting and training firm. Elizabeth is passionate about advancing and advocating for the internal audit profession and was recently recognized as one of the 2023 Internal Audit Beacons by Richard Chambers. Elizabeth makes auditing and training fun (no, really!) with the help of her mascot, Audie the Internal Otteror. In addition to training and consulting, Elizabeth is an adjunct Professor of Accounting at Front Range Community College.

Elizabeth’s most recent industry experience was at Achieve, where she was Sr. Director, Audit Strategy; prior to that, she held internal audit leadership roles at Elevations Credit Union, Fidelity Investments, and Xcel Energy after first starting her career at Ernst & Young.

Elizabeth prides herself on bringing agile audit techniques to organizations.
