Unlocking the Power of Effective Communication

Have you ever asked a question during an audit and received nothing but a one-word response? Or struggled to keep an auditee engaged? This session will help you learn how to ask powerful questions and apply active listening techniques. Elevate your communication skills to become a more effective Internal Auditor!

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of powerful questions and active listening.
  • Demonstrate pratical techniques to improve their questioning and listening skills to gain deeper insights during audits.
  • Stregthen their ability to build rapport and trust with auditees.

Note: The IIA New Orleans Chapter will host its Board meeting immediately following the CPE event (1PM to 2PM CT) - all members are invited to stay and attend.

This meeting will include lunch. Meal selections must be made during registration.

Bio: Sarah Curry, CIA, CISA, CISSP, CPA, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2013 with a B.S. in Accounting and Information Systems and a B.S. in Finance. She is an IT Audit Manager at Amgen where she leads engagements to evaluate risks and assess internal controls over information systems and IT processes and infrastructure. She has successfully implemented several key department initiatives to enhance audit processes and improve organizational efficiency. She has over eleven years of internal and external audit experience within the biotech, banking, and oil and gas industries.

Sarah is an active volunteer with The Institute of Internal Auditors as a District Representative and former President of the New Orleans chapter. She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Louisiana. She is currently studying for the Certificate of Cloud Auditing Knowledge (CCAK).
