CA Ed code 53008 requires all K-2nd grade students to be screened for reading difficulties, including dyslexia, using a state-approved screener, starting in the 2025-26 school year. The list of approved screeners was released in December. By June 30, 2025, a state- approved screener(s) must be adopted by all local educational agencies (LEAs) that serve K-2nd grade students.
The Santa Clara County Office of Education is hosting an informational session about the state-approved reading difficulties risk screening instruments. Educators will have the opportunity to hear about the approved screeners and ask questions so that they can make an informed decision about the ones that they would like to pilot and adopt.
Participants from different local educational agencies (LEAs) will have an opportunity to engage in a discussion about the screeners after the presentations.
