IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT DEADLINE FOR VISA APPLICATIONS
(posted at 0145 GMT on 18-Jan-2016)

Following the announcement in Vienna on 16-Jan that nuclear-related sanctions against Iran have been lifted, the CAPA Summit will be the first international gathering of business leaders in post-sanctions Iran in any sector. As a result we have received unprecedented global interest in attending this event. However, foreign delegates should be aware of the following with respect to visa applications for travel to Iran.

Nationals of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, India, Jordan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Somalia or Colombia: If you do not already hold a valid visa for travel to Iran, we regret that we can no longer accept registrations.

All Other Nationals - Pre-Authorisation of Visa: We can apply for pre-authorisation of your visa (which will be stamped on arrival) provided that we receive confirmation of your intention to register, your preferred method of payment (Visa, Mastercard or bank transfer) and your name, designation, company and nationality by 1300 GMT on Monday 18-Jan-2016. Furthermore, we must receive a scanned copy of the personal details page of your passport by 1600 GMT on Monday 18-Jan-2016. Subject to these deadlines being met, we expect to have your authorisation code issued by close of business (Tehran) on Wednesday 20-Jan-2016. Pre-authorisation will facilitate a smooth arrival experience at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport.

All Other Nationals - Visa on Arrival is Possible: After 1300 GMT on Monday 18-Jan-2016 it will no longer be possible to obtain pre-authorisation of your visa. However, for nationals of countries other than the eleven identified above, the option continues for late registration and travel (unless the event is sold out). Delegates are permitted to travel to Iran without pre-authorisation and apply for their visa on arrival. This is a standard procedure. There are three issues to note with this option:

  1. Delegates may have to wait for an hour or more in the immigration area for their visa application to be reviewed. All registered delegates will be assisted by our conference staff support staff in the VIP terminal.
  2. As is the case anywhere in the world, in the absence of pre-authorisation there exists a small possibility of your visa application being declined after you reach Iran. Entry cannot be guaranteed and delegates would travel at their own risk.
  3. Provided delegates elect to travel with the full knowledge that there may be some inconvenience and risk as outlined above, and that CAPA can take no responsibility for the outcome, this is an option for late registrants who wish to participate in this historic summit. In the event that a delegate under these circumstances is not able to attend the conference at all CAPA will, given appropriate evidence, undertake to refund 75% of the registration fee.

A not-to-be-missed event in 2016

CAPA is excited to announce a unique global leaders’ summit for 2016, with the launch of the CAPA Iran Aviation Summit which will take place in Tehran on 24-25 January 2016. This will be the first major international aviation summit to be held in Iran in almost 40 years and is provided with the full backing of Iran's aviation authorities and industry leaders.

As a result of the signing of the historic Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Jul-2015, Iran’s civil aviation sector, and its tourism industry, are set for significant modernisation and expansion following the lifting of sanctions on 16-Jan-2016. The CAPA Iran Aviation Summit will bring together Iran's key government and industry leaders with international experts and the chiefs of aviation operators and suppliers from around the world, to discuss the direction of the industry in a post-sanctions environment.

Iran is one of the 20 largest economies in the world on a PPP basis, with a young and highly educated population of close to 80 million enjoying amongst the highest living standards in the region. This is a market with immense potential and huge pent-up demand for aircraft, equipment, technology, skills and capital, as well as airport and airspace infrastructure, as and when restrictions are removed.

There are also significant route development opportunities for foreign airlines, airports and national tourism authorities. And given the wealth of historical, cultural and natural attractions in Iran an expected surge in inbound tourism will drive investment in hotels and services.

An unprecedented gathering of the Iranian aviation industry

The Summit is being convened with the cooperation of CAPA's hosts, the Iran Airports Company and the Iran Civil Aviation Organization who have played a central role in coordinating the participation of all of the key decision-makers from across the aviation value chain in Iran. Important note about sanctions

Please note that nuclear-related sanctions have been lifted as of 16-Jan-2016. Other sanctions may remain in force. Delegates and sponsors must seek their own legal advice on the nature of activities in which they may or may not engage. The defined activities vary from country to country. CAPA takes no responsibility for the status or actions of participants, nor their consequences, should they breach national or international regulations.
