International Serious and Organised Crime Conference 2013

Serious and organised crime elements of cybercrime and how High Tech Crime Operations is effectively positioning the AFP to combat the perils of both cyber and more traditional crime

, National Manager High Tech Crime Operations, Australian Federal Police

Cybercrime is a multi-jurisdictional issue that represents a significant threat to the psychological, social and financial wellbeing of all Australians. Unlike other forms of serious and organised crime, the cyber world is not necessarily financially driven and can be focused on areas such as the interruption or disruption of critical infrastructure systems, the destruction of business enterprises and the sabotage of information systems.

AFP High Tech Crime Operations Assistant Commissioner Tim Morris will discuss the role of High Tech Crime Operations (HTCO) in providing both effective and contemporary cybercrime prevention strategies focusing on cyber safety and awareness, as well as dynamic responses to criminal acts that:

  • compromise computer systems relied upon by the Australian critical infrastructure community and/or information systems of national and international significance
  • exploit the integrity and safety of children.

Assistant Commissioner Morris will also discuss the role of HTCO in supporting AFP operations through the provision of best practise technical and physical surveillance support.
