Concurrent session 1a—Intelligence: Driving innovation through the economics of information sharing

Dr Maria Milosavljevic, A/g Chief Information Officer, Australian Crime Commission

Inefficiencies occur when participants in a market do not have the same information. Opportunities are lost, resources are wasted and infrastructure is duplicated. The Australian Criminal Intelligence Model heralds a new era, which will see improved information sharing nationally and law enforcement agencies are collecting high volumes of data, hoping to uncover valuable insights. But these improvements don’t necessarily result in increased productivity.

Increased information sharing can lead to disproportional effort on collecting, collating and sharing large volumes of data. Recent innovation within the ACC Fusion Centre has improved how we collect and correlate data, but where should we focus our attention to ensure we are also increasing our productivity?
