In this talk I will discuss my experiences as a condensed matter physicist and share lessons learned on the path from a 2009 ABIE Award winner to where I am today. I will discuss my research and diversity advocacy, share challenges and opportunities for balancing life in the academy, and discuss the special challenges faced by women and minorities.
