Black women are one of the least-represented segments in computing, and increasing their representation is further challenged by the lack of positive messages in media that celebrate their contributions in technology. The Research Coalition for Black Women & Girls in Computing, which collaborates with ABI’s Black Women in Computing (BWIC) community, provides a platform for black women and girls (K-12) through research, education, and professional development. Through its partnerships, the Coalition connects with other communities and platforms – education, media, entertainment, technology, among others – the amplify efforts to make computing more inclusive. This panel will screen a short film that celebrates black women in computing and follow with a discussion about the importance of sharing narratives that portray black women and girls in exciting, innovative, and multi-faceted technology roles.
