AICA MEMBERSHIP


INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP

(a) Individual members shall be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people involved in the media & communications industry;
(b) Individual members are entitled to attend, speak and vote at a General Meeting;
(c) All members shall reside in Australia;
(d) All members shall accept aims of the objects of the AICA;
(e) Be accepted as a member of the AICA by a majority of AICA Board of management and;
(f) Are eligible for election to the management committee.


ORANISATION MEMBERSHIP

(a) Organisational members shall be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander groups involved in the media & communications industry;
(b) Organisation members are entitled to attend, speak and vote at a General Meeting;
(c) All members shall be based in Australia;
(d) All members shall accept aims of the objects of the AICA;
(e) Be accepted as a member of the AICA by a majority of AICA Board of management and;
(f) Are eligible for election to the management committee.


ABOUT MEMBERSHIP

An applicant for membership of the AICA, must have their membership form signed by the applicant and be proposed by one member of the AICA (the proposer) and seconded by another member (the seconder).


MEMBERSHIP FEES

The membership fee for each class of membership is:
(a)  $11.00 per individual
(b)  $110.00 per organisation and
(c)  Is payable annually, and in the way the AICA Board decides.


ADMISSION AND REJECTION OF MEMBERS

(a)  At the next meeting of the AICA Board after the receipt of any application and the fee applicable for any class of membership, such application shall be considered by the financial members present, who shall thereupon determine upon the admission or rejection of the applicant.
(b)  Upon the acceptance or rejection of an application for any class of membership the secretary shall forthwith give the applicant notice in writing of such acceptance or rejection.


TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

(a)  A member may resign from the Association by giving a written notice of resignation to the secretary.
(b)  The Management Committee may terminate a member’s membership if the member -

•    Is convicted of an indictable offence; or
•    Does not comply with any of the provisions of these rules; or
•    Conducts himself or herself in a way considered to be injurious or prejudicial to the character or interests of the association.


APPEAL AGAINST REJECTION OR TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

(a) A person whose application for membership has been rejected, or whose membership has been terminated, may give the secretary written notice of the person's intention to appeal against the decision.
(b) A notice of intention to appeal must be given to the secretary within 1 month after the person receives written notice of the decision.
(d) The applicant must be given a full and fair opportunity to show why the application should not be rejected or the membership should not be terminated.
(e) The Management Committee and the committee members who rejected the application or terminated the membership must be given an opportunity to show why the application should be rejected or the membership should be terminated.
(f) Any appeal must be decided by a vote of the members present at the meeting.
