Senior UX Designer
Bloomberg

In 6 years at Bloomberg, Richard has had the privilege to design hardware and software interfaces that are tailored to meet the complex needs of financial professionals. He's learned that platform design requires a delicate balance between consistency and innovation. As part of a broader diversity and inclusion initiative, Richard has been researching the various needs of users with disabilities. He’s found that reusable patterns and UI consistency provide an important foothold for accessibility. The need for consistency is amplified in app platform ecosystems like the Bloomberg Terminal because, while thousands of applications are built upon a common framework, the teams working on applications may find different UI solutions to identical user needs – inadvertently complicating app familiarization for users with disabilities. Through UI toolkit widget updates and by enhancing UI patterns and standards, the UX team at Bloomberg is paving the way for increased platform accessibility.
