About the Event: QLD - Giving Days

Join us to see how you could raise over $1 million dollar in a day!

There has been a rise in Days of Giving across Australia, where major gifts are used as leverage to match donations over 24 hours. In 2019, Day of Giving campaigns were seen from QUT, RBWH, Queensland Ballet, RSPCA QLD and others. Now with the COVID-19 crisis and many events being cancelled, online giving days may be worth considering for your organisation.

These campaigns create a sense of urgency, attracting new and engaging existing donors with the opportunity to double or quadruple the value of their donation. They bring together donors, corporate partners, staff and volunteers, to create a significant impact in just one day.

Days of Giving can be quite low cost, meaning any organisation could turn a few gifts into a million dollar campaign – just like RSPCA QLD’s most recent Giving Day!

Join this session with Sonya Tufnell MFIA, Campaigns Manager at RSPCA QLD, who recently raised $1.6 million in one day.

Sonya will share her experiences in running two matched giving campaigns and will take you through where to start, key success factors, and break down all the elements that make a giving day a success.

Sonya Tufnell started her fundraising career in 2001 in London and has been actively involved in the art of development since then. She has worked for various not-for-profits across Australia and has been involved in every aspect of fundraising, from raising multi-million dollar gifts to implementing regular giving programs. As we all know, fundraisers are multifaceted, so to help her cause, she has also run a second-hand book store, managed community development programs in the South Australian outback and was the Australian representative at the UN discussing cyber safety of children. She is passionate about connecting donors with amazing causes and telling stories that provide real emotional connection.

Sonya is now working at RSPCA QLD running their individual giving programs and leading mass fundraising campaigns, such as Million Paws Walk and Cupcake Day. She is responsible for a portfolio that generates over $8 million every year and also has office puppies!
